Temple Emanuel Scholarships Honor Dr. Shine
Temple Emanuel of Great Neck has chosen to honor Great Neck Public Schools Superintendent William A. Shine with the donation of two annual academic graduation scholarships, beginning this June. This year the temple is also donating two community service graduation scholarships in memory of the victims of September 11.
Village Officials Association Serious About Upgrading Emergency Readiness
The emphasis on strengthening emergency preparedness by Great Neck's mayors has not abated since September 11. If anything, it has intensified as the Village Officials Association (VOA) continues to meet in public and private sessions to beef up the means and methods of utilizing and sharing resources, and to assess and rectify the gaps that remain. Under-girding the discussions is a tone of "can-do, roll up our sleeves, we'll do whatever is necessary ... "
Emily Ostrover Collegiate Crew Champion
Emily Ostrover of Lake Success (GN South High School Class of 1998), capped off her successful four-year college rowing career at New York University as the NY State Collegiate Women's Pairs Champion, with teammate Catherine Starr of Westport, CT. The State Collegiate Championships took place May 4 at upstate Whitney Point.
Great Neck High School Golf Team
Five members of the Great Neck High School Golf Team were invited to participate as individuals in the Nassau County High School Golf Championships held at the Eisenhower Park White course on May 22. The team was represented by seniors Scott Kaplan of South and Paul Chen of North, John Travis, a sophomore at South and freshmen Brian Burstein of South and Daniel Frankel of North. Both Burstein and Frankel have been on the varsity team since they were seventh-grade middle school students.
