School District Adopts Proposed 2002-03 Budget
After extensive public discussion and input, during a lengthy and open budget process, the board of education has adopted a proposed school budget for 2002-03 of $123,592,000, an increase of 4.56 percent over the 2001-02 budget. The average school tax rate will increase by about 5.89 percent ($2.53), resulting in an average rate of approximately $45.49 per $100 of assessed valuation.
Old Village Adopts Term Limits
Ending almost 50 years of informal term limits on village officials, on April 23 the Village of Great Neck adopted term limits for the mayor and members of the board of trustees. Two new pieces of legislation provide that the mayor and board of trustees members serve four-year terms of office and that no elected official may serve two consecutive four-year terms in office.
Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy Weekly Sports Wrap-up
The Blue and Gray stand at 17-17 overall and are 12-10 in Knickerbocker play with one game remaining in 2002. Last week, Kings Point posted two wins and two losses.
Rex Lardner Tennis Tournament
The fourth annual Rex Lardner Tennis Tournament will be held at Memorial Field, on Saturday, June 8, beginning at 9 a.m. Rain date is Sunday, June 9. The tournament is open to Great Neck Park District card and tennis permit holders. Entrants must register at Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Avenue. A $5 entry fee will be charged.
