Wrestling is a very grueling sport. It is very hard to be a good wrestler-- not only do you need strength but you need to master the precise techniques. "Wrestling is on the upswing in Great Neck," says coach Dan Krauz. Krauz has been the coach of wrestling for four years on the district team, and this is his first year as the Great Neck North coach. The Great Neck North team is chock full of hard-working, spirited boys, and now a girl, senior Dellene Kornitsky. She is the first girl to be on the team ever.
There are many great wrestlers on the team, but one of the best is senior Arthur Athens (who won All-County). Athens placed 6th, and changed the whole season around when he beat the 4th ranked boy, Matt Hurwitz, from Glen Cove. The five other seniors on the team are Dan Mazza, Jason Dilmanian, Dan Damaghi, Abe Sedgh, and Jon Guardado, who is All-Conference. Outstanding juniors are Ethan Raffi and Brett Boskoff. "Richie Shaoul, Derek Giddon, Ben Moussavi, Jason Sheena, Aaron Daniels and Saman Yaghoubian rounded out the team" says Krauz. "We had an outstanding year. We will lose a lot of good seniors, but we have 45 returning wrestlers. Next year will be led by already-captains Brett Boskoff and Ethan Raffi." Krauz is very proud of all the hard work the team has accomplished, and cannot wait until the next wrestling season.
