The board of commissioners is pleased to announce the appointment of Neil D. Marrin as the new Superintendent of Parks of the Great Neck Park District. Mr. Marrin, formerly Deputy of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Ramapo, will replace Richard A. Arenella, who has retired after 32 years as superintendent.

In his capacity as Deputy of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Ramapo for the past 13 years, Mr. Marrin's many accomplishments included overseeing the design, bid and construction of a $7.2 million sports facility. He also wrote and obtained grants-in excess of one million dollars-for the construction of new facilities and for the development of additional programs. Mr. Marrin implemented academic/recreation camp programs with two school districts serving over 1,000 children. He worked with the police department, non-profit agencies and schools to create elementary and secondary level after-school programs. Additionally, he coordinated facility renovations which included upgrading playgrounds, researching the construction of state-of-the-art sport court surfaces and facilitating the adaptation of handicapped accessible facilities. He also established the Ramapo Parks Foundation which provided a means for parks and recreation services to gain access to private and governmental grants designed for non-profit, charitable organizations. As if all that isn't enough to have kept him busy, Mr. Marrin is an adjunct professor at Lehman College and Saint Thomas Aquinas College.

And now he's the Superintendent of the Great Neck Park District and we are proud and honored to have him join us. Best of luck to the retiring Richard Arenella. And congratulations on his new appointment as Superintendent of Parks and Recreation-and welcome aboard-to Neil Marrin!

Call 487-2976 to inquire about the evening session. Now is the time to think about summer employment and we are in the process of recruiting lifeguards for Parkwood Pool. The salary scale has been revamped to be more competitive with surrounding facilities and Parkwood Pool is a great working environment. Parents can pick up an application form at the Parkwood office, 65 Arrandale Avenue, to send their children, who may be away at college at this time of year. Or interested potential lifeguards can contact the facility manager, Fred Ondris, directly at 516/487-2975, ext. 116. It's a smart idea to secure that summer job now and eliminate the hassle of the hunt when school is out. The time to register for Session 3 of tennis mini camp is now. It begins April 1 and runs through April 5, during spring recess. The fee is $125 and the camp fills up early, so register now! Positions are available for anyone over 16 years of age this summer as park attendants, life guards, deck attendants, show crews, recreation counselors, tennis attendants, launch operators and more. Parents who would like to pick up an application for children away at college can do so at Parkwood administration office, 65 Arrandale Avenue - or at the 5 Beach Road office.
