Before his retirement in 1978 Mr. Palmer was employed with the Sperry Gyroscope Co. in Lake Success. Since then, and until he underwent a heart by-pass, he would be seen walking nine miles a day betwwen Douglaston and Manhasset.
Refusing to take any formal training he created his own distinctive art form. He enjoyed classical music, was always intellectually curious, and recently read the Bible as literature from cover to cover. He was a longtime member of REAP II, and until a few weeks ago was delivering Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his daughter, Lee Palmer-Perciasepe of Baltimore and by six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor; by his daughter, Judy Buhler of Plantation, FL; and two days prior to his own demise, by his son, Dr. Richard Palmer, a nuclear physicist of Livermore, CA.
Philip Palmer was a sincere, caring man who loved people and was loved by those who were fortunate to have known him. He will be sorely missed.
