Weitzman: Raring to Go
After his successful run for county comptroller, Howard Weitzman is still scratching his head in wonder at two major revelations that might fit into a primer of What I Learned About Nassau County. First, that practically every decision made in Nassau County in the past has been highly politicized and second, campaign volunteers that sign on and work tirelessly "aren't in it for anything, except better government." Mr. Weitzman notes that since civil service employees primarily staff the comptroller's office, there are few appointments that come with the job.

Water Pollution Puzzle
The Village of Great Neck's Water Pollution Control Department is puzzled --- who has been polluting the sewer water? While the pollution was immediately detected and just as quickly remedied each time it was detected, both the Water Pollution Control Department and the Nassau County District Attorney's office are investigating.

GN's Skating Star Rises Higher and Higher
Great Neck's world-class figure skating star, 16-year-old Sarah Hughes, is rising ever higher. Her latest triumph occurred at Saskatoon, Canada, on Nov. 5, when she beat out the noted 21-year-old Michelle Kwan at Skate Canada's Short Program, to finish first.
