Transcend Trauma: Firmly Embrace Joy, Jobs, Relationships
"You have all been traumatized," said Joyce Braak, M.D. to members and guests of Temple Emanuel's Sisterhood recently. And from that point, she launched into a mesmerizing speech that wove her experiences as a trauma expert who has intervened in scenes of horror around the world, along with a hopeful message of how people can transcend trauma rather than become imprisoned by it.
Park District Honors Great Neck's Heroes
In a stirring, uplifting ceremony last Wednesday evening, the Great Neck Park District honored Jonathan Ielpi and Andrew Stergiopoulos, along with park district employees who serve as volunteer firefighters and were called up following the September terrorist attacks on our nation. Park commissioners, park district employees, local officials, relatives and friends crowded Great Neck House on Nov. 14, as Great Neck's own heroes were honored.

Fourteen-year-old third generation Great Neck resident Daniel Frankel was presented with 11 awards at the Met PGA Junior Tour ceremonies on Oct. 8. The evening featured special acknowledgement of the Sept. 11 tragedies and emphasized the great opportunities that America provides to its youth in education and sports.
