On Alert: The New Reality
For years Saddle Rock's Mayor, Leonard Samansky has been cajoling, some would say "hounding" his fellow mayors in Great Neck to purchase 800 megahertz radio systems for their respective villages to communicate in the event of an emergency. Some heeded the call and other villages saw it as an unnecessary expense. But after Sept. 11, in his role as the Emergency Management Chief for Nassau County, Mayor Samansky's belief in the need for such a back-up system was vindicated when New York City found itself without a reliable communication system and radios from Nassau County were loaned to the city.

Report on NYS School Assessments
Although Great Neck consistently ranked high in Nassau County for the 2001 New York State assessment tests, there is some concern regarding the eighth grade math scores at North Middle. Still, the overall test results placed Great Neck among the top schools for the fourth grade math scores and for the eighth grade math and English language assessment scores.

GN South Rebels Football Team Wins Thrilling Victory
The Great Neck South boys varsity football team achieved a thrilling victory on Saturday, Nov. 3. The Rebels shellacked Bellmore JFK by a mark of 37-8, earning their first win of the season.

UCF Run This Sunday
The United Community Fund of Great Neck and North New Hyde Park will hold its 24th annual Long Island Gold Coast 5M/5K run this coming Sunday, Nov. 11, at 9 a.m. Registration on the day of the event is $20 and that registration will be accepted from 7 to 8:30 a.m.
