The 24th annual Long Island Gold Coast 5M/5K Run, to benefit the United Community Fund of Great Neck and North New Hyde Park, is set for Sunday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. This year's event will start from an all new location, Great Neck North High School and feature an all new route designed by Ed Melnick of the Greater Long Island Running Club. Melnick's firm, The Big Finish, will also provide accurate race timing using the "winning time chip system."

Race Director Michael Larkin commented, "we cannot thank the Great Neck School District enough for their support of our event and we are thrilled to be starting at Great Neck North High School. We already have students committed to helping on the day of the event. Additionally, Ed Melnick has designed a superb route which I am sure the participants will find interesting."

UCF President Mina Aibel added, "with the race being on Veterans Day, and with the recent events that have united our country, just prior to the race start we will pay tribute to those men and women who have given their lives to protect others. We will also remember those Great Neck residents who lost their lives in the recent tragedy at the World Trade Center."

Many of UCF's member agencies have been directly involved in the rescue and recovery efforts at the WTC, as well as, providing counseling and crisis management services to relatives and friends of the victims. The proceeds of the race help support UCF's member agencies in their continuing mission to provide direct services to the residents of the Great Neck Peninsula. A special thanks goes to our sponsors, Poultry Mart, Bagel Hut, Garfunkel, Wild & Travis, P.C., Daniel and Gilda Zirinsky and David Brendon & Co., LLP.

To register for the race, call 482-8101 or go online to www.active.com. There will also be registration on the day of the race beginning at 7:30 a.m.
