Weitzman Ready to Make a Change
Confident that the people of Nassau County really are ready for change, Mr. Weitzman says he is running "because the residents of Nassau County deserve better than what we have got." He went on to speak of the "qualified Democratic candidates countywide ... who can make a difference in Nassau County and made Nassau County a place people are proud of."
Parola Confident of Re-election
Mr. Parola, a Republican, remains confident of victory in the Nov. 6 election. In an interview with Anton Community Newspapers, he reflected on his time in office and the achievements that he believes qualify him for another four years as county comptroller.
Still Time to Register for UCF Five-Mile Run
There is still time to register for the United Community Fund of Great Neck and North New Hyde Park 24th annual Long Island Gold Coast 5M/5K run. The run is slated for Sunday, Nov. 11, at 9 a.m. Prizes will go to the top three overall male and female winners in each race.
USMMA's Women's Cross Country Team Wins Skyline Conference Title
On Sunday, the US Merchant Marine Academy women's cross country team won the Skyline Conference Championship at Sunken Meadow State Park. The Mariners' women's athletics program has won Skyline Conference titles in volleyball and swimming in the past, but never in any other sport. Freshman Chrissy Anderson (North Vernon, IN) of Kings Point won the women's crown in the five-kilometer event in a time of 21:32.0. Senior captain Brigitt Clausing (Menomonie, WI) was third in 21:49.4. Sophomore Victoria Gigante (Old Bethpage, NY) ran the race in 22:05.0 and placed fourth while senior Alison Gaudiano (Fairfax, VA) was sixth in a time of 22:53.1. All four were named 2001 Skyline All-Conference selections in cross country after placing in the top seven finishers.
