In light of the tragic events of last month, this year's 10th annual Music Faculty Recital of the Great Neck Public Schools (GNPS) will be dedicated to the victims and heroes of Sept. 11, 2001. An inspirational evening is planned that will feature patriotic songs and other music that embodies the spirit of America, a united and beloved land. Proceeds will benefit the Great Neck Firefighters, the American Red Cross, and the Great Neck High Schools Music Scholarship Fund.
This special concert will open with America the Beautiful and include American favorites such as Turkey in the Straw, as well as classical pieces. The recital is a wonderful opportunity to hear the district's talented music teachers and friends in performance and to experience the dynamic joy of live music.
The public is encouraged to join these dedicated performers for a memorable evening of excellent musical performances, on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m., in the Lakeville School Auditorium, 47-27 Jayson Avenue.
At press time, the program will feature the following recitalists: Yvonne Bendzlowicz, Denise Eisner, Juan Garcia, Amalie Kempton, James P. Kiernan, Pamela Levy, Jennifer Monat, Janine Robinson, Joseph Rutkowski, William Ryall, Alan Schwartz, Michael Schwartz, and Daniel Tomaselli. All are participating as volunteers.
A reception with the performers will follow the concert.
In addition to donations to Great Neck Firefighters and the Red Cross, scholarships from the Music Fund will go to two deserving seniors-one from North High and one from South. At North High, the Bruce Thompson Memorial Award is presented to the outstanding senior musician. At South High, the Music Scholarship Award goes to an outstanding senior who plans to continue studying music in college.
Donation is $10. Students and senior citizens will be admitted free of charge.
