A Forgotten Suitcase Prompts Bomb Investigation
On Friday morning, Oct. 5, Cuttermill Road was blocked to pedestrians and traffic for more than three hours because the Nassau County Bomb Squad was investigating a suitcase that had been left unattended on the curb in front of the Great Neck Computer store. Fortunately, the response was rapid and the implosion of the suitcase yielded only a mangled hair blower. In its wake was also left a relieved, but reflective, further sobered community.
Faculty Recital, America the Beautiful, Dedicated to Victims and Heroes
In light of the tragic events of last month, this year's 10th annual Music Faculty Recital of the Great Neck Public Schools (GNPS) will be dedicated to the victims and heroes of Sept. 11, 2001. An inspirational evening is planned that will feature patriotic songs and other music that embodies the spirit of America, a united and beloved land. Proceeds will benefit the Great Neck Firefighters, the American Red Cross, and the Great Neck High Schools Music Scholarship Fund.
UCF Annual Five-Mile Run Nov. 11
Once again the United Community Fund of Great Neck and North New Hyde Park will sponsor its annual run. This, the 24th annual Long Island Gold Coast 5M/5K run, is slated for Sunday, Nov. 11, at 9 a.m. Prizes will go to the top three overall male and female winners in each race.
Great Neck South Boys Varsity Football Team Begins Year of Rebuilding
The Great Neck South boys varsity football team has begun a year of cautious optimism. The team's season will be a year of rebuilding, according to Head Coach Jim Morrow.
