Old Village Considers Second Moratorium
Having recently adopted a six-month moratorium on all building and other construction within the Industrial District Zone of the Village of Great Neck (the area in the village east of East Shore Road), village officials are now considering a second moratorium on all building and construction in the Business C District Zone, on the west side of East Shore Road (from the Kensington Village line to Ravine Road). At the board of trustees' July 24 meeting, a new bill was introduced to propose this second moratorium. A public hearing was set for Tuesday evening, Aug. 7.

Clarifying a Muddy Issue Watershed Council Meets
Despite storming rain and thunderstorms, Bill Nieter, director of environmental studies at St. John's University, led many members of the Watershed Council through a tour of the controversial Oakland Ravine on Springfield Boulevard in Bayside last Tuesday afternoon. Following the tour, members of the council were invited to the Alley Pond Environmental Center (APEC) on Northern Boulevard for a meeting discussing the mudslide in Alley Creek, future construction decisions regarding the Oakland Ravine and Lake, and any other topics open to the members.

Long Island Gold Coast Pro-Am Tournament
The second annual Long Island Gold Coast Pro-Am Tournament, to benefit the United Community Fund of Great Neck and North New Hyde Park, will be held Sunday, Aug. 12 at the Wildwood Pool and Tennis Club in Kings Point. The event is sponsored by Sy Luba Heating and Air-Conditioning.

Dennis Walters is the only person paralyzed below the waist who earns a living as a professional golfer. He performs his show in association with the Professional Golfers' Association of America - the only golf performer to enjoy this distinction.
