Temple Beth-El to Renew and Rebuild
In the conference room of a law office on Great Neck Road, the clergy and leadership of Temple Beth-El of Great Neck met on May 8, to take stock following the devastating fire that destroyed the Beth-El Religious School and caused smoke and water damage in other parts of the building. The nursery school was severely damaged and the temple offices were rendered unusable. The Rudin Chapel, though water-stained and smoky, was judged to be repairable. The main sanctuary, Oneg Shabbat Room and Museum had only minor smoke damage. What became clear from the meeting of clergy and leadership was, that apart from the physical damage, nothing would change and that Temple Beth-El would not let the fire claim a victory, but would continue on as before albeit with some temporary, but significant reorganization.
