The Village of Great Neck Estates will face a contested election come next month. In the upcoming March 20 elections, three candidates are running for two trustee spots: trustee Sidney Krugman, trustee Jon Kirshner, and Billy Warner. Mr. Krugman has been a trustee since 1995, and Mr. Kirshner is running for his second term. Mr. Warner ran, unsuccessfully, for trustee in 1999.
Great Neck Estates Mayor Edward Causin is also running for re-election. Slated for a second term, Mayor Causin is running unopposed. Estates Village Justice Steven Raymond is also running, unopposed, for re-election. He has been village justice since 1993.
Mayor Causin and trustees Sidney Krugman and Jon Kirshner are supported by the Best Government Party. Mr. Warner's support comes from the Family Party. The Great Neck Estates Civic Association is sponsoring a Meet the Candidates Night on Monday evening, Feb. 26, 8 p.m., at Village Hall, 4 Atwater Place.
While the mayor and trustee positions are for two years, the village justice term is for four years.
Great Neck Estates elections are Tuesday, March 20, from noon to 9 p.m., at Great Neck Estates Village Hall, 4 Atwater Place.
The other five Great Neck villages holding elections on March 20 are all set for uncontested elections --- Great Neck Plaza, Kensington, Russell Gardens, Saddle Rock, and Thomaston. Petitions to run for office on March 20, for all six villages, were due by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Elections will be held in June in the villages of Great Neck, Kings Point, and Lake Success.
In the Village of Great Neck Plaza two trustees are running unopposed. Trustee Joel Liebowitz is running for re-election. He has been on the Plaza's board of trustees since 1990. Trustee Gerald Schneiderman is running for his first elected term. Mr. Schneiderman was appointed to the board of trustees last April to fill the trustee post vacated when then trustee Jean Celender was elected mayor.
Both trustee spots are for two-year terms.
Great Neck Plaza elections will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20. Elections are held at Great Neck Plaza Village Hall, 2 Gussack Plaza.
Two new candidates are running for two trustee spots in the Village of Kensington. Richard Dennett and Alina Hendler are both running, unopposed, for their first two-year terms as trustees.
Kensington's elections are Tuesday, March 20, with the polls open from noon to 9 p.m. at Kensington Village Hall, 2 Nassau Drive.
There are three uncontested elections in the Village of Russell Gardens. Mayor Daniel Nachmanoff is running for re-election to another two-year term. Also running for re-election to two-year terms this year are trustees Steven Kirschner and Harriet Surks.
Russell Gardens elections will be held Tuesday, March 20, between noon and 9 p.m., at Russell Gardens Village Hall, 6 Tain Drive.
In the Village of Saddle Rock there are four uncontested elections. Mayor J. Leonard Samansky is running for re-election, as is trustee Fred Wasserspring. Charles Hercman is running for his first term as trustee. All three positions are for two-year terms. Village Justice Paul Tullman is running for re-election for another four-year term.
Elections in Saddle Rock will be held on Tuesday, March 20, from noon to 9 p.m., at Saddle Rock Village Hall at 18 Masefield Way.
The Village of Thomaston is also set for four uncontested elections. Mayor Robert Stern is running for his third term, and trustee Gary Noren is also running for re-election. Both elections are for two-year terms. Lynn Kleinman is running for her first term as a trustee. Ms. Kleinman is running for a one-year term, as she is filling a seat vacated by trustee Robert Stevens who moved out of the village. Village Justice Steven Weinberg is running for re-election to another four-year term.
Thomaston elections are Tuesday, March 20, noon to 9 p.m., at Thomaston Village Hall, 100 East Shore Road.
