Strong Support for DiNapoli Run
''I'm proud and grateful that Tom DiNapoli has stepped up to give Nassau County the leadership it needs and deserves,'' declared New York State Comptroller H. Carl McCall, as he led off a string of prominent endorsements for Assemblyman Thomas P. DiNapoli's run for Nassau County Executive at the Feb. 7, DiNapoli campaign kick-off rally at Hofstra University. Mr. McCall stated that ''Nassau County needs to change ... it is a national embarrassment.'' He vowed to ''work together'' with Mr. DiNapoli to ensure a win next November.
Richard Arenella Announces Park Retirement
In a heartfelt, emotional letter to the Great Neck Park District's board of commissioners, longtime Parks Superintendent Richard Arenella announced his upcoming retirement. Reading the letter at the park board's Feb. 7 meeting, Mr. Arenella stated that he would be leaving his post at the end of this year, after almost 40 years with the park district. ''It was an arduous decision to reach,'' he said.
Great Neck North Girls' Fencing
The Great Neck North girls' fencing team entered the county championships confidently. It knew it shared the league championship title with Garden City because both teams held identical records. This year, however, the North team came with a taste for revenge. Last year, they held the league championship title, but were upset in the county to come in second behind Garden City.
Nassau County Fencing Championship
Great Necks High School's varsity fencing teams competed in the Nassau County Fencing Championships on Feb. 3 at Oyster Bay High School.
