Great Neck South High School's men's varsity fencing team defeated Great Neck North High School in the last meet of the season. Great Neck South finished in 2nd place behind Garden City. They finished with a 10 and 2 record.

South's foil fencer Zach Wissner-Gross, (l), warms up with team member David Kwon before the North-South fencing meet, Feb. 1.

The members of the varsity epee team are Ross Grutman, Alvin Thalappillil, Jonathan Gale, and Justin Healy. The members of the varsity foil team are Jonathan Danoff, David Kwan, Zachary Wissner-Gross, and Josh Epstein.

Next year a saber team will be added to the varsity team. The members of the junior varsity saber team are Spencer Goldstein, Eric Chen, Sean Adwar, Gordon Cinco and Gabby Ayache.

Coach Vladimir Gofman was extremely pleased with his team's performance as this has a rebuilding year. Many of the team's strongest fencers graduated at the end of last year. Coach Gofman is trying to establish a fencing club in Great Neck with the hopes of giving all of Great Neck's students a chance to practice their fencing year round.
