James Martin died on Nov. 10, 2000 in Great Neck. He was born Jan. 6, 1912 in Philadelphia, PA. James Martin lived in Great Neck since 1948. He was a partner in National Pants Company, a business founded by his father-in-law Joseph Alpert. He served in WWII enlisting in the Army the day after Pearl Harbor. He was a champion of liberal causes, a patriot and an American history buff. He also advocated for the environment. Husband of Alice Alpert Martin who died in January 1997. He is survived by his three children, Elizazbeth, Joshua and Paula Martin; three grandchildren; and cousins, Nat Stevens and Harold Stevens; niece and nephew, Flora Bryant and John Friedland; and other nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many friends, NYS Legislator Tom DiNapoli, former Kensington Mayor Dave Burghardt, Peter Kaufmann, Robert Birnbaum, Sidney Kopell, Kensington Police, GN Board of Education, GN Library, Wilwyck School and many others.
