Arts Center Founder's Award Honors Michele and Ralph Heiman
Great Neck's Michele and Ralph Heiman will receive the Founder's Award at the sixth annual Great Neck Arts Center Gala on Thursday evening, Nov. 16, at the Tribeca Rooftop in Manhattan. The Heimans are founding members of the Arts Center.

A Drop in the Budget: Water Quality
As Nassau County power wielders scurry to pound the county budget into shape free of excess fat to send down the runway to the Nassau Interim Finance Authority, experts in various fields are anxiously assessing the weakening of certain programs due to the scope of the cuts. They are asking, "Is it fat that's being trimmed, or muscle?" The Long Island Water Conference, an organization of professional water providers, issued an alarm last week at Mr. Gulotta's proposal to slash the Water Management Unit from the Public Works Department's section of the budget.

Legends Travel Baseball Team
In 1997 the Port Washington Legends Travel Baseball Team, coached by Jimmy Cosolito, opened its roster to skilled players throughout Long Island. Chris Pieper of Great Neck spent his summer playing baseball with them. He now plays second base, bats in the cleanup position and is the anchor of the infield. The season ended with a victory in the FABL Championship and another title at the Triple Crown Long Island/Connecticut Tournament. Pieper has achieved several outstanding statistics. Along with his numerous clutch hits in big games, he finished the season hitting .540 and struck out only once in his last 91 at-bats.

South High Track/Cross Country Reunion
A reunion is scheduled for anyone who was a member of the Great Neck South High School track and cross country teams. The reunion will be held on Sunday, Oct. 29, noon, at the Great Neck South High School east gym (boys' gym).
