NYS Cancer Maps: What They Show for Great Neck and Its Neighbors
When the New York State Health Department issued maps this spring of the incidence of the three most common types of cancer -- colorectal, lung, and breast -- found in each county throughout the state, and another map of the incidence of breast cancer in Nassau County, by zip code, the findings probably confirmed what many already suspected for the Great Neck area, and it brought comfort to no one. Based on state data collected from 1992 to 1996, the maps showed that the incidence of lung and colorectal cancer in Nassau County was within 20 percent below through 20 percent above, the state rate, for both men and women.

Allenwood Park Adult Softball
At the crack of dawn on Saturday mornings, during the summer, a bizarre, frenzied, ritual takes place in many Great Neck homes. Middle-aged husbands frantically run around their houses making meticulous preparations. The caps are removed from the shampoo bottle, the toothpaste tube and the roll-on deodorant beforehand. The shower faucet is adjusted to the exact temperature setting but not turned on. The stall shower door is opened. The toothbrush and comb are strategically positioned on the sink counter for quickest use. The rinse cup is filled with water. A set of dress or vacation clothes are efficiently laid out, just outside of the bathroom, so as to require the minimum amount of body movement to put them on.

Boys Sports Awards at Great Neck North 2000
In early June, The Great Neck North High School honored their athletes at the annual sports awards night. Each coach gave a short recap of their team including any all stars. The school handed out year-end awards. After the school awards were handed out each team went to a separate room to bestow their team's Most Valuable Player, Most Improved and Most Dedicated Awards.
