If we think back to our childhood days, many of us might remember eagerly awaiting June, when school would be ''out'' and we had all summer long to have fun. Well, today, especially here in Great Neck, when summer rolls around, youngsters still look forward to carefree, fun-filled weeks, but now that time might just be spent in school. And, for sure, it is still a ''fun time!''

The Great Neck Public Schools offer a wide range of activities for youngsters of all ages. From summer camp programs for the littlest ones on up, to summer enrichment courses for secondary school students, to sports camps, to tutorials, to special interest programs, it is all there, in the summer, in our school district.

The school district provides a wonderful day camp program and a super sports program, as well as highly acclaimed science, music, and theater workshops, many of which culminate in very exciting summer's end productions. For students eager to stay involved in their studies, there is an amazing array of courses to choose from. And for students who might need a little extra help in a certain subject, or for those who may anticipate difficulty in an upcoming Regents exam, there are summer school academic courses and tutorials.

For the adult population, too, Great Neck provides a wealth of enticing courses, trips, and special events, thanks to the school district's Adult Program. There is always something to do at The Adult Program, 12 months a year.

So, if you, or your children, are up for some fun this summer, look no further than your schools. Lots of summer fun is in store for everyone! It's summertime and ''school is in!''
