Mina Aibel Takes the Helm at UCF
Sitting across from the newly elected president of the United Community Fund (UCF), Mina Aibel, one is aware of the sense of calm and quiet resolve she projects. To lead an organization primarily composed of volunteers in these challenging times while competing for charitable dollars with many worthwhile organizations that are sophisticated in fund-raising strategies will require both qualities, but Ms. Aibel is no stranger to challenges.

School Board Elects Officers
As Board of Education President Judi Bosworth was sworn in for another year as board president at the July 10 organizational meeting, reelected trustee Barbara Berkowitz was sworn in for her first term as board vice president. Nineteen year board of education trustee Lawrence Gross, who has served as president and as vice president over the years, stepped down from his most recent vice president post. (The board members elect the officers.)

USMMA Basketball Wrap-up
"Quite simply, I want our team to play hard, play smart, and play together. If we can do that on an everyday basis, we will become the best team we can be." First-year Head Coach Bill Lange wanted this of his team prior to the 1999-2000 season, and that is exactly what he received. The Mariners posted their fifth consecutive winning season with a 17-11 ledger and advanced to post-season play for the fourth consecutive year. Kings Point, who was picked to finish fourth in the Skyline Conference in the preseason coaches poll, defied all odds and won their third straight regular-season title finishing 13-4. The team capped off an exciting year by earning the #6 seed in the ECAC Division III Metro NY/NJ Championships.

Shelter Rock Tennis Club Tournament Benefits Diabetes
Shelter Rock Tennis Club will once again host the annual tennis tournament held to benefit the Diabetes Research Institute. The third annual North Shore Sweethearts Tennis Tournament has been scheduled this year for the week of July 23 to July 30, under the sponsorship of D'Amato & Lynch and founding sponsor Marvin & Sons Jewelers.
