Publisher Karl. V. Anton, Jr. Dies at 81
Karl V. Anton, Jr., publisher and editor-in-chief of Anton Community Newspapers, died Saturday morning at his home in North Merrick with his wife Angela Susan Anton by his side. His death followed a short illness of cancer. He was 81 years old.
Plaza Addresses Corporate Housing
The Village of Great Neck Plaza once again addressed the issue of corporate housing. At the village's July 5 board of trustees meeting, for the second time this year Mayor Jean Celender and the board discussed concerns about a block of corporate-owned apartments at the multiple dwelling at 88 Cuttermill Road.
Kings Point USMMA Baseball Wrap-Up
The Mariners slipped under the .500 mark in 2000 finishing the season 11-13, but concluded the year winning eight of their last 11 games, including their final six outings. Kings Point finished the newly-formed Knickerbocker Conference with a 5-8 ledger. The squad also played in the Skyline Conference finishing in second place with a 4-1 mark. The team is extremely young, only losing two seniors to graduation, and will return their full arsenal of hitters and pitchers in 2001.
Great Neck Junior Golfer Volunteers at PGA Buick Classic
Daniel C. Frankel of Great Neck volunteered as a Standard Bearer for 36 holes of the 2000 PGA Buick Classic. Daniel worked with Craig Stadler and "Lefty" Steve Flesch, behind PGA Tour Great Davis Love III and in front of Young phenom Sergio Garcia. He was responsible for posting accurate scores and displaying them to the gallery of thousands during two 18-hole rounds in plus 90 degree heat.
