Members of the Great Neck Garden Club have generously offered their assistance to the Great Neck Park District in an effort to revitalize and enhance the rose garden behind the Village Green. Commissioner Ruth Tamarin has been working with the members, headed by co-presidents Flora Rubenfeld and Eva Rifkin.

Originally designed by Mr. Olnstead¬who designed Central Park¬the rose garden still contains award-winning roses, some of which are rare specimens. Gradually, the rose garden will be rejuvenated, pruned and complimentary flowers will be added. Garden club members have already made helpful suggestions, including the possible addition of a central arbor for roses of the climbing variety. Over time, the bushes have lost their original tags and Mrs. Tamarin would love to have any rose aficionados in the area help identify some of the existing species. Anyone who wishes to help in the identification process can reach Mrs. Tamarin at the park district Beach Road office: 482-0181.
