The Question of Rezoning Helen Lane
Village of Great Neck officials are now wrestling with the question of whether or not to establish a new residence district, C1, within the village, on Helen Lane, an undeveloped road off of Steamboat Road. Mayor Steven Tell, Deputy Mayor Stephen Falk, and the board of trustees expect to make a decision at the next board of trustees meeting, on June 20.

Saddle Rock Nixes Waterfront Zoning Change
Responding to angry protests from a large group of residents, Village of Saddle Rock officials voted down a proposed zoning change that would have counted a portion of a lot which is underwater in computing building area. The decision came immediately following a lengthy June 7 public hearing. On the heels of that decision, Mayor J. Leonard Samansky proposed another law regarding waterfront property and a public hearing was set down for July 5.

South Lady Rebels Are Division Softball Champs
The Great Neck South Rebel Softball team was highly honored at the Nassau County Softball Coach's Association All-Star Banquet, held June 5 at Crest-Hollow Country Club. Among their many individual honors and plaques was the one commemorating their Division 1B championship, and also an award for "Coach of the Year" to Stu Fritz. Coached by Fritz, softball at South has steadily developed and improved over the past few years, from a developmental squad in the lowest division between 1993 and 1995. Every year, they have become increasingly competitive in the league.

UCF First Annual Pro-Am Tennis Tournament
Play tennis with a pro at UCF's new tennis event on Sunday, June 25, as part of the annual Long Island Gold Coast Tennis Tournament. UCF will present a Men's Pro-Am Tennis Tournament at the Parkwood Tennis Complex, affording local players (with a minimum rating of 4.0) the opportunity to play alongside the areas top pros, as they benefit the Great Neck United Community Fund.
