The members of the Great Neck North Girls Track team made its 10th trip to the Penn Relays held at the University of Pennsylvania April 27, 28 and 29. The 106th Running featured 849 high schools from 20 different states and seven countries including Ireland, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Canada among others. High schools from California, Ohio and North Carolina were among the roster of the Penn Relays. The Blazers sent the 4X100 and 4X400 relay teams to the meet.

The 4X100 relay team ran a 59.8 time, which is the fastest time of the season. The relay team consisted of seniors Erin Byrnes, Irene Polanco and juniors Ilene Jarolem and Dalia Yadegar. The 4X400 relay team featured Yadegar, who led off with a 68 time. Byrnes was next, running a 71.2. Eighth grader Marisa Roberts ran 71.3, and sophomore Delene Kornitzsk anchored the team and came away with her best time of her career clocking in at 65.6. The team time was 4:36, also a season best.
Highlights of the season so far were the 4X1500 meter relay team of Jarolem (6:02), junior Kathy Aghalarpour (6:38), Roberts (5:56) and sophomore Meredith Schloss (6:40). The team time was 25:17 and placed third in Class B, and broke the school record by 50 seconds. Their performance took place at the Section 8 Relays April 14. The 4X400 relay team of Kornitzky, sophomores Michelle Sassouni and Lauren Blitzer and Jarolem turned in good times. The sophomore 4X400 relay team of freshmen Melina Arango and Marissa Tillem, sophomores Vered Taplitzky and Schloss turned in good performances. A sprint medley team of Yadegar, junior Meital Barzideh, Roberts, and Schloss turned in a very good performance at Manhasset.
Upcoming meets for the Blazers are a conference meet with Lynbrook, Roslyn, and Bethpage, May 1, followed by the Port Washington Invitation May 4, 5. North will close out the conference schedule May 8 with a home contest at the Merchant Marine Academy against Westbury and Plainedge. North will play host to the Division Championships held at Mitchel Field. The State Qualifiers will also be at Kings Point May 31 and June 1. "There is time to peak, but we have to get going," stated Coach Chris Omeltchenko. "There is good talent on the team," noted Coach Jon Folber. Junior Dalia Yadegar and sophomore Delene Kornitzky are the team's leading scorers so far. Twenty-eight members are on the team with four seniors on the team. Erin Byrnes, Jen Neman and Irene Polanco are the captains.
