  • NEWS: Main Library Children's Room Redesigned

    For three days in November, the children's room at the Great Neck Library's main branch on Bayview Avenue rang with the sounds of workers installing custom-designed shelving, fixtures, furnishings, and glass partitions. "The room desperately needed to be reconfigured," said Lisa Paulo, the children's room head librarian. "The main problem, which was rectified by the renovations, was that the different age groups did not have their own space." FULL STORY

    Presenting a report of school enrollment trends and building utilization, District Director of Research, Evaluation and Special Services Andrea Rosen reported that this year the district is projecting only a 1.3 percent overall increase in the school population. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Local Hadassah Members Raise Funds

    Local residents and Hadassah members played their favorite sport at the recent Golf, Tennis, and Games Day sponsored by the Nassau Region of Hadassah at the Muttontown Club. Included were tennis stars Nancy Alani, Great Neck Chapter President Cheryl Sperber, Elaine Bassik and Elaine Juster. Over 230 women attended the annual event, raising approximately $35,000. "It was a magnificent day," remarked Region President Rita Gottlieb." "Everyone had a wonderful time and the profits benefited ovarian and breast cancer research and education at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, a leader in ovarian and breast cancer research." Hadassah Medical Organization is the largest medical and research center in the Middle East: 600,000 patients from all over the world are treated each year at two hospitals, a community health center and 90 outpatient clinics.
