Mayor Rosegarten Not Seeking Re-election
Great Neck Plaza Mayor Bob Rosegarten will not seek re-election come March 2000. After almost eight years as mayor, and 18 years on the board of trustees including 16 years as deputy mayor, Mayor Rosegarten is confident that he is leaving a ''healthy and vital'' village.

Charter School Panel Discussion
On Dec. 9, the League of Women Voters organized and conducted a panel discussion on the topic ''Charter Schools: Critical Educational and Fiscal Issues.'' Speaking to a cross-section of the Great Neck community were John Farrell, an attorney and a proposed charter school trustee; Gerald Valquez, president of the Charter School Resource Center, a privately supported, not-for-profit group that provides assistance to charter school organizers; Bob Lupinskie, president of the Nassau-Suffolk School Board Association; and Great Neck superintendent of schools, Dr. William Shine. Representing the League in moderating the evening was Dr. Debbie Shichtman.

North Girls Volleyball Are Champs
The Great Neck North girls volleyball team under second year coach, Tim Nguyn became Conference Champs for the first time in school history. North recorded an amazing 15-1 record in Conference 6. The lone loss came at the hands of JFK Bellmore.

North Boys Cross Country Has Successful Season
The Great Neck North Boys cross country team under Coach Chris Omeltchenko finished the season with a third place in the Conference Championships held at Eisenhower Park in late October. North's third place finish was its best finish since 1988 when that team was also third.
