  • NEWS: The ABCs of the Proposed Charter School

    Ending weeks of suspense, but with many critical questions still dangling unanswered, the redacted Great Neck International Charter School application was made public by the Charter School Institute on Dec. 1. Advocates for the Great Neck public school system have read it, dissected it, analyzed it and mobilized to respond to it. Great Neck school board trustee, Donald Ashkenase said, "The board is disappointed that any residents would choose the charter school approach rather than bringing their concerns to the board of education. The unintended consequences of this charter school, if approved, would result in significant reductions in programs and services to the children in the Great Neck public schools." FULL STORY

  • NEWS: Villages Join Charter School Opposition

    Most of the Great Neck villages have joined the fight against a charter school proposing to open in Great Neck, with Kings Point the only village not addressing the issue. Having received copies of the Great Neck Public Schools Board of Education's Nov. 8 resolution opposing a charter school in Great Neck, several of the villages have adopted similar resolutions and most are sending letters to state officials stating opposition.
