First Approval for Cohan Preservation
As the United States Merchant Marine's George M. Cohan Band played Over There, and after hearing impassioned pleas on both sides of the issue, the Kings Point Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to sanction the preservation of the former George M. Cohan home.

The Continuing Saga of Thomaston
At a meeting of the Bayview Civic Association on Oct. 28 which approximately 150 people attended, residents of Manhasset lodged vigorous protests against the proposed senior facility that is being considered by the Village of Thomaston. Leslie Kaufman at the Maccabi Games
Great Neck North High School student, Leslie Kaufman, was a member of the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center's girls basketball team that brought home the gold from the recent JCC Maccabi Games. The JCC Maccabi Games are an annual international Olympic-type event. Over 1,500 athletes, ranging in age from 13- to 16-years-old, from all over the country, Canada, Great Britain, and Israel, took part in this year's Maccabi Games which were held recently at the Katz Community Center in Cherry Hill, NJ.
