  • NEWS: Park Budget: No Tax Increase

    No tax increase! No fee increases! That is the $7,243,732 year 2000 budget that the Great Neck Park District Board of Commissioners is slated to present to the Town of North Hempstead. The board of commissioners approved the budget proposal at the park board's Oct. 13 meeting, and will next present the budget for final approval at a town hearing, at a date to be announced.   • SPORTS: Kings Point Weekly Wrap-up

    The United States Merchant Marine Academy Football Team dropped a 19-14 heartbreaker Saturday afternoon on Captain James Harvey Tomb Field to the visiting Menlo College Oaks from Atherton, CA. On the final play of the game with Kings Point ahead 14-13, Menlo attempted a 25-yard field goal. The snap was high and a scramble ensued. As he was just about to be hit by a number of Kings Point players, junior quarterback Steve Christie hit running back Joe Cannon in the endzone for the winning touchdown with no time left on the clock. With the win, the Oaks improved to 3-2 overall while Kings Point fell to 2-5 on the year (1-3 Freedom Football Conference). FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Lady Rebels Soccer Team Debuts in Conference IV

    This season, the Great Neck South Girls' Soccer Team has made its debut in conference four worth remembering. The Rebels have thus far proved that they are indeed a force to reckon with, as their record can attest. The goal of the Lady Rebels this season is to reach the playoffs, as they have in the last four out of five years. Last year, the team almost survived the first round; however, the Rebels lost in a postponed sudden death overtime. While juggling canceled games and practices due to mosquito spraying, the Rebels have managed to come together and unite behind a drive to their desired playoff seed. FULL STORY
