  • NEWS: Plaza to Extend Moratorium

    The Village of Great Neck Plaza has begun the process to extend the temporary moratorium on the issuance of conditional use permits for the construction or conversion of buildings to be used as specialized senior housing facilities and hotels, within the village's C2 zone. The village is now proposing a six-month extension for this one-year moratorium, which began on Jan. 6, 1999. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: North Boys Cross Country Open Up Season With Victory

    The Boys Cross Country team under Coach Chris Omelchenko opened up the conference season with an 18-40 win over Roslyn. Sophomore Eddie Byrnes won the race in his best time of 18:28.8. Senior Tim Li placed 2nd in the race clocking a 18:56.6 time. Senior Scott Abraham placed 4th in 20:13 and was followed by teammates Ian Cedieu, a sophomore in 5th place, senior Alex Roberts 6th place and junior Mike Yellin in 7th place. Coach OMO was pleased with the win and noted that places 4-7 all came in within 13 seconds of each other. Sophomores Andy Cole and Randall Li placed 9th and 10th and freshman Matt Brumberg placed 12.   • SPORTS: North Girls Cross Country Wins

    The Great Neck North Girls Cross Country team under Coach Adam McKenzie opened up the conference season with wins over Roslyn and Plainedge. North scored 41 points to Roslyn's 43, to Plainedge's 50 points. The meet was held at Bethpage State Park, Sept. 28. North was paced by Juniors Dahlia Yadegar and Ilene Jarolem who came in together at 25:41 placing 6 and 7. Junior Mary Chen and Junior Kathy Aghalarpour was next placing 8th and 9th respectively. Their time was 26:24, and 27:07 respectively. Freshman Rachel Cohen was North's final scorer with a 11-place finish in a time 28:08. "I was very excited about beating both teams. It takes the whole team to win," state Coach McKenzie. Junior Alisyn Trani and sophomore Shereen Rashidi also ran for North. Freshman Nicole Babilivi was injured and did not run but rounds out the team. "Coach McKenzie was pleased with Jarolem's great performance considering she was running with the memory of a friend, Jason Butler, a '99 South graduate who died last week from injuries sustained when he was hit by a truck.
