Sophomore Jon Green placed second in the triple jump at the State Qualifer's held at Mitchel Field in late May and as a result of his leap of 44'10", Green qualified for the NY State Championships held in Kingston in the first week of June. This was Green's first trip to the states. Green also competed in the long jump and placed fifth in 21' 6 3/4". The top two finishers are juniors, while the third- and fourth-place finishers are seniors.

At the state championships held June 6, Green placed fifth with a leap of 43' 3 1/4". The winner had a leap of 44'10," which was Green's leap a week earlier. "I was disappointed in not jumping what I did at the State Qualifer's. I could have placed first or second," commented Green. The winner was also a sophomore, but the second-, third- and fourth-place finishers all are seniors.

Green earned All-County in the long jump by placing second, jumping 21' 10 1/2" at the county championships and was the winner in the triple jump, leaping 43' 11 3/4". Coaches Chris Bell and Eamon Flood are pleased with Jon's performances and next year will have had the state experience which may give him an edge.
