Parents Urge Zero Tolerance for Underage, Unlicensed Drivers
With mounting parental concerns regarding the number of underage, unlicensed teenage drivers in Great Neck, a special program was presented at the March 24, United Parent Teacher Council (UPTC) meeting. Dr. William Shine, superintendent of the Great Neck Public Schools, moderated a panel of law enforcement officials and a village justice from the penisula to a roomful of approximately 100 parents.

Library Board Commended by Auditor; Trims Year 2000 Budget
The March 23 meeting of the library board began on a high note with the 1998 audit report from Henry Graber, CPA of Graber and Company. Mr. Graber commended the board and administration who "did a magnificent job on an overall basis" and had shown "fiscal responsibility." A copy of the full report is a matter of public information and may be viewed at the library. In commenting on the year 2000 budget, he suggested that the board should consider Y2K insurance coverage for legal costs that might be associated with unpredictable problems.

Brustien Sets Record with 18 Strikeouts in South Win
Great Neck South varsity baseball opened their season at home on Saturday with the annual game against cross-town opponent Great Neck North. There is always tremendous anticipation when these two bitter rivals meet. Rebel hurler, Matthew Brustien started, put in a record-breaking performance, and Taylor Shapiro had the big hit, as South won 9 - 1.

Great Neck South Girls Lacrosse 3-0
The Great Neck South Girls Lacrosse team under coaches Eli Jannes Olive and Peter Gottfried defeated Floral Park 12-10 Saturday, March 27, upping their record at 3-0. Floral Park opened up the game by scoring first in the first 55 seconds of the game.
