The 200 Medley team of sophomore's Adam Nadelson, Zack Goldman, Brian Krypel and junior Adam Martinez won the State Qualifier's Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center with a time of 1:44. 03. Garden City was 2nd with a time of 1:44.36. The State Championships will be held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center Friday, March 5, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, March 6 starting at noon to 4 p.m. Coach Peter Hugo who is the county coordinator is the meet director of the State Championships.

Nadelson started the relay off with a 27.11 back stroke. Krypel was next with a 29.26 in the breast stroke. Goldman turned in 24.88 butterfly, and Martinez swam the crawl in 22.78. The same foursome placed second in the 200 freestyle relay turning a time of 1:33.04. The 400 freestyle relay team placed 3d in a time of 3:32.95. The relay team consisted of Martinez, Krypel, Nadelson and senior Captain John Ganz. Martinez placed 2nd in the 100 butterfly in a time of 55.84. Ganz placed 7th in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.07 and the final competitor was junior Josh Storch placing 7th in the 100 breast clocking a 1:09.94. The first place finish in each race automatically qualifies for the State Championships but anyone who meets the qualifying standard would also qualify.

North finished third at the County Championships with a score of 395 points. Garden City was the winner by scoring 468 points defeating the three-time County Champions Long Beach who scored 458 points. The meet took place at the Aquatic Center Feb. 12, 13 and 14. Top 20 places score points for the team. North opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. Junior Charles Cadieu swam the back stroke in 26.90, followed by Krypel in the breast with a time of 29.3. Goldman turned in a 24.95 butterfly and senior Dan Mevorach turned in a 24.60 crawl. Martinez, Ganz and junior Dan Hugo placed a 2, 8, 9 respectively in the 200 freestyle. Nadelson placed fifth and Krypel placed ninth in the 200 individual medley which combines back, breast, butterfly and crawl each lap. In the 50 freestyle, Dan Mevorach 8th, Goldman 11th and freshman Jason Armon 17th all placed. Goldman 56.30 and Martinez 56.33 placed 3rd and 4th respectively in the 100 butterfly. Freshman Ian Mevorach placed 14 in the 100 freestyle. Ganz, Hugo and freshman Sunny Porras placed 7th, 9th and 20th respectively in the 500 freestyle. The 200 relay team of Krypel, Goldman and Nadelson placed second in 1:34.77. Nadelson, Cadieu and sophomore Jon Ross placed 2nd, 19th and 16th respectively in the 100 backstroke. Krypel and Storch placed 3rd and 7th in the 100 breast and the final event of the day saw North place 5th in the 400 freestyle. Nadelson, Ganz, Hugo and Martinez were the quartet to compete.

North wins the C Division Championships with a score of 679. Wantagh was the runner up with 638 points. The 200 medley relay team of Cadieu, Krypel, Goldman and freshman Jason Armon won in a time of 1:50.27. Martinez won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.94. Ganz, Hugo and Porras placed 3rd, 5th and 8th respectively in the 200 free. Martinez and Goldman placed 1st, and 2nd respectively in the 100 butterfly, while junior Jeff Friedman placed 11th. Ian and Dan Mevorach, Armon, and senior Mike Palumbo placed 5th, 7th, 8th and 9th respectively in the 100 freestyle. Ganz, Hugo and Porras placed 2nd, 3rd and 5th respectively in the 500 freestyle. Nadelson, D. Mevorach, Krypel and Martinez teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay. In the 200 individual medley, Nadelson placed 2nd in a time of 2:12. 07. Krypel placed 4th, and Storch placed 5th in the 2900 I.M. as well.

In the 50 freestyle, D. Mevorach placed 3rd in 25.16 followed closely behind Goldman 5th in 25.26, Armon placed 6th in 25.48, and I. Mevorach 7th in 25:93. Nadelson won the backstroke in 59.52, followed by Cadieu, Ross, and freshman Victor Kiraly placing 5th, 6th and 12th respectively. In the 100 breaststroke, Krypel placed 2nd followed by Storch and junior Jeff Friedman placing 3rd and 14th. The 400 relay team of Martinez, Ganz, I. Mevorach and Nadelson placed second. North did place 8th and 9th in diving with freshman Navid Farahmandpour and junior Kevin Hakimian.

Coaches Hugo and Jose Lopez were very pleased with the season, and with three seniors out of a team of 25, the future looks great. Great Neck North was awarded team Sportsmanship of the Year during the County Championships. Good luck in the States.
