Ackerman Brings Supporters to D.C.
Several Great Neck residents were among the four dozen supporters invited to the nation's capital on Jan. 6 by Congressman Gary Ackerman (D-NY), to help celebrate his ninth swearing-in to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Plaza Adopts Moratorium
The Village of Great Neck Plaza adopted a temporary moratorium on the issuance of conditional use permits for the construction or conversion of buildings to be used as specialized senior housing facilities and hotels, within the village's C2 zone. The moratorium is to be for one year, commencing on Jan. 6, 1999, the day the legislation was approved by the village's board of trustees.

GN North Girls Indoor Track
The 1998-1999 Indoor Track season is underway with 37 girls and Coach Chris Omeltchenko. North has 11 seniors and Arezou Dilmanian, Judy Bassaly, Barbie Livian, Melanie Shurka, Randi Portney and Susie Becker as captains. There are seven juniors, 13 sophomores and six freshman for a nice balance according to Coach Omeltchenko.

The Great Neck South Rebels Boys' varsity basketball team, after finishing 3-12 in Conference II last year, hopes to improve this season despite the loss of four starters from last season's squad.
