  • NEWS: Chamber of Commerce Dedicates Gazebo

    The dedication ceremony included speeches, presentations of proclamations and a flag, and a ribbon cutting to officially open the distinctive gazebo that is identified to passersby by handsome signage bearing the GNCC map logo and "stick your neck out for Great Neck" giraffe mascot. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: School Board Opposes Charter Schools

    The Great Neck Public Schools' board of education unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the establishment of charter schools. At the board's Nov. 23 meeting, Board of Education Trustee Mona Fuchs reported that the state has drafted, but not yet adopted, legislation that would permit charter schools at the expense of funding that would have gone to the local public schools. It will be voted on at a special session of the state legislature this month. FULL STORY

    The 1998 boys cross-country team under Coach Chris Omeltchenko finished the conference at 10-6, a slight improvement over the previous year. The highlight of the season was the win over Great Neck South. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Great Neck North Girls Field Hockey Wrap Up

    The 1998 Girls field Hockey team under Coaches Cathy Behar and Joan Gruenbaum ended their season with a tough first round playoff loss to Garden City by a score of 2-0. The Blazers were seeded fourth in Class B and had to face the Trojans seeded number 1. North and Garden City played to a 0-0 tie at the half. Garden City scored five minutes into the second half, and scored a second time 10 minutes later. The North senior goalie made 26 saves to the Garden City goalie who did not make a save. Garden City went on to win the county championships over Port Washington 3-0, and the state championships 1-0 over Lakeland. FULL STORY
