    The Great Neck United Community Fund (UCF) Third Annual Telethon on Sunday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. will be dedicated to the memory of Milton Guttenplan, longtime UCF volunteer and vice president of public relations, who died on Oct. 22. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: Plaza and Parks Claim Same Property

    Both the Village of Great Neck Plaza and the Great Neck Park District are claiming to own property at the southerly end of St. Paul's Place (formerly known as Chapel Place), property that has long been used as a part of the park district's Canterbury commuter parking field (six parking spaces). The Plaza has proposed legislation to amend parking restrictions and regulations in that area and the property in question is included. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: UCF Five-Mile Run

    In past years, Jerry and his wife, Charlene, have participated in the race as runners and have also taped the event for public access TV. This year's run will begin at the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 9 sharp. The hundreds of runners will wind through the streets of Great Neck before finishing back at the academy track. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Injury Prevention Education Day for Youngsters

    Many children seem to have an innate knack for getting injured. Fortunately, most childhood injuries are minor, but unintentional injury is the leading cause of death in children under age 14. On Monday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset is hosting "Injury Prevention Day," a unique program for students in grades five, six, and seven. Sponsored by the Nassau County Safe Kids Coalition of New York, the event is designed to provide youngsters with information and education to help them avoid serious injury. FULL STORY
