The beginning of each school year brings a sense of renewal for students, parents and staff. When Great Neck Public Schools students arrive on Sept. 8 they will continue a tradition that has taken place in this community for 183 years. Its history has been characterized by strong public support and a reputation for educational excellence. But a school district's reputation cannot long exist solely on the achievements of its graduates. To maintain its reputation, it must adjust to increased state accountability demands and new technologies while maintaining or exceeding its previous accomplishments.

The Kings Point cross country team hopes to carry its successes from last year into the 1998 season with the return of a number of experienced veterans and a blend of outstanding recruits. In 1997, the Blue and Gray had an excellent campaign by capturing the Public Athletic Conference (PAC) championship and finishing 17th out of 46 teams at the ECAC Division III championships.
