The Great Neck Park District is proud to announce the First Annual Memorial Open Tennis Tournament to be held at Memorial Field, Fairview Avenue, on Sunday, Sept. 13 (raindate: Saturday, Sept. 19) starting at 9 a.m.

The parks commissioners and the tennis advisory committee have worked very hard to develop a format that will place more emphasis on social tennis than on competitive tennis.

Categories of play will include men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles. The tournament will be run as a round-robin. Names will be drawn from a pool of all entries and a number assigned to that name. First player or team to reach six points will win that game. Everyone will play each other and the player(s) with the most points at the end of the games will be declared the winner.

Prizes will be awarded. Marc Johns, of Kings Point Indoor Tennis, has already donated a free half-hour lesson, free stringing and tees.

The tournament is open to all members of the Great Neck Park District. Applications for the tournament may be picked up at the Memorial Field tennis courts or the Parks Department office, located at 5 Beach Road. Deadline for all entrants is Sept. 1.
