  • NEWS: Village of Great Neck: Addressing Pedestrian and Traffic Safety

    Village of Great Neck officials are now considering placing a gate across Ellard Avenue, a proposal that came from a professional pedestrian and traffic study commissioned by the village. This action would serve to stop cross traffic attempting to avoid the Hicks Lane traffic light. An Aug. 18 public hearing was set. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Great Neck South Girls Track

    The Great Neck South Girls track team under Coach Chris McKenzie finished out a successful season. At the State Qualifiers held at Mitchel Field, senior Claudine Compas placed fourth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.7, and placed third in the 200 meter dash in 25.9 qualifying her for the state championships for the third consecutive year. Compas chose not to compete in the States due to her going to her brother's college graduation. Compas did place fifth in the 200 at the Eastern State Championships also held at Mitchel Field June 9. Freshman Shenita McPhatter placed fourth in the 400 meter dash in 60.2. Junior Jennifer Lew placed 10th in the 400 hurdles in 76.3. Freshman Ebbony McPhatter placed 10th in the shot put 29' 9 1/4" and ninth in the discus with a toss of 87' 1". The Rebels placed fifth in the 4X100 relay with Compas, Shenita McPhatter, freshman Rachel Supris, sophomore Shirley Koon. Their time was 51.0. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Great Neck North Girls Badminton

    On May 15 at Roslyn, senior Tara Brenner of Great Neck North defeated Maleka Davis of Freeport 11-7, 11-7 to win the Nassau County Championships for first singles. In the semifinals, Brenner was victorious over Valley Stream Central's Tina Beatty 11-4, 11-4. Brenner will attend The University of Pennsylvania in the fall. FULL STORY
