The Mariners' first win of the season came April Fool's Day in an exciting rain-delayed sudden-death overtime win over FDU-Madison. Entering the fourth quarter the Mariners were down 4-6 but Kings Point closed the gap to one with one minute to play. With 16 seconds to play and lightning bouncing around the sky the referees halted the game. After an hour inside the teams came out to finish the game. The Blue and Gray were not going to quit and freshman Jeff Hladky (Merrick) scored a goal with eight seconds remaining to tie the game. Junior Rocky Curtis (Boca Raton, FL) killed the ball on the ensuing face-off to send the game into overtime. One minute into overtime, senior Matt Glasser (Bayside) scored his fourth goal of the game for the Mariners first win of the season.
Leading the way for the Mariners, Rocky Curtis scored four goals and scooped up 13 ground balls. Glasser scored four goals and grabbed two ground balls. Hladky scored the tying goal and had three ground balls.
The second win of the season came on a 20-10 win over Kean College Saturday. The Mariners (2-4) opened up the first quarter with four goals and never gave up the lead. Rocky Curtis completed his first hat trick of the game in the first five minutes of the second quarter. Brandt Hager added two goals in the second quarter. The Mariners came out of the break and scored nine more goals in the second half to win 20-10.
Rocky Curtis led the Mariners with seven goals and two assists. Senior Arthur Allen (Northport) scored three goals and had five assists on the afternoon. Sophomore Brandt Hager (Annapolis, MD) scored three goals.
The Mariners completed the week with a three game-winning streak defeating City College of New York 21-5, Sunday. Junior Jack Garcia (Acton, MA) scored a hat trick and junior Rocky Curtis scored in the first quarter to help the Mariners gain a 4-0 first quarter lead. The Mariners never looked back and scored eight goals in the second quarter while holding the Beavers scoreless. Curtis and Garcia each scored two more goals and Arthur Allen added a goal and two assists during the second quarter to take a 12-0 Mariners lead into the half.
Sophomore Brandt Hager opened the third quarter with three straight goals. Senior Brian Kalman (Baltimore, MD) also scored in the third. Freshman Alex Brick (Alexandria, VA) and sophomore George O'Conner (Commack) each scored one goal in the fourth. On the day, Garcia scored six goals and had one assist. Senior Mike Distefano (Bear, DE) won all 14 face-offs he contested and scooped up 13 ground balls. Senior Matt Glasser led the Mariners in assists with four. He also scored one goal.
