Irene Kampen, 75, died on February 1, 1998. The daughter of Jack and Mary Trepel, she was raised in Great Neck and graduated from Great Neck High School. She wrote a gossip column for the Levittown Tribune. After her divorce, Mrs. Kampen wrote Life Without George, about her life as a divorcee raising a teenage daughter in a small New England town. It was published and later became the basis for The Lucy Show. She wrote 10 other books and her articles and stories appeared in many magazines. She was also a lecturer. Mrs. Kampen is survived by her companion Louis Ferioli; her daughter Christine Guthrie; and her sister Joyce Miller. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
