    When he was in the third grade at Baker Hill School, Peter L. Scher enthusiastically organized a benefit carnival on his family's front lawn for the Children's Medical Center, an organization in which his mother was actively involved. Susan Scher recalls, "Peter was the biggest organizer. Everyone thought he would one day want to become an elected official, but I always told them that Peter enjoyed working behind the scenes better. I knew."

  • NEWS: UCF Creates New Fund Through Donation By Anne Tschinkel

    After more than 20 years of selfless service in the United Community Fund, Anne Tschinkel has gone one step further. Ms. Tschinkel announced a $10,000 donation to the UCF at her recent retirement brunch, held in recognition of her long-term contribution to the organization as executive director.

  • SPORTS: South Girls Basketball makes Strong Comeback

    The Great Neck South girls varsity basketball team started its season this year a little uneasy due to the loss of six seniors, including 6 ft. 2 in. forward Sylvia Maderic and All-County point guard Jamie Simmons.
