Alana Libow, a senior at South High School, was one of eight student-athletes countywide to receive the recent Women's Sports Foundation Award presented by the Nassau County Public High School Athletic Association, Section VIII. She was nominated for this award by Doris McMahon, South High physical education department head, and selected based on her athletic abilities, academic excellence, leadership qualities, and community service.
Alana has played varsity volleyball throughout high school, and was named All Conference and a Scholar-Athlete and elected team co-captain this year. She also excels in lacrosse, where she was team captain, and in basketball. In junior year, she was elected Girls Varsity Club president.
Her academic awards include the Carlos Salazar Award for academics, citizenship, and athletics, and being selected for Who's Who Among American High School Students. Last summer, she was a volunteer in Equador, working with children in a school setting. She was also a Caring Community junior representative at Temple Beth-El.
