The Great Neck North Girls Soccer team under Coaches Paul Ziring, and Hector Rabanal saw their team win their first conference championships in Girls soccer in school history play top seeded Southside in the first round of the playoffs. "I told the girls that we have nothing to lose, and you never know what can happen," stated coach Ziring. Southside scored four goals in the first half in route to a 5-0 score. "The team played hard, and we knew we were playing a great team," continued Coach Ziring. Southside went on to become State Champions over this past weekend.
North will graduate three athletes in Becky Blaine, Jaime Roth and Megan Klein. All three were the captains. Blaine scored 28 goals this year and 72 for her four years. Roth led the team in assists and was the teams second leading scorer. North will automatically move up to a higher ability conference, which both coaches as well as players feel ready to accept. The team has a nice nucleus with freshman Amanda Crisis looking to step up as the goal scorer. Junior Cathy Chavkin, freshman Shirin Soleymani will be counted on to keep the team competitive. Coach Ziring noted the rapid improvement in sophomore Daisy Henriquez made in taking over in goal midway through the season. She will continue to improve Coach Ziring feels. The rest of the sophomores are Robin Finkelstein, Sogol Smekh, Amy Keller, Mona Souferian and Elise Blanda. There were a big freshman group. After Crisis and Solemani, North has Phoebe Klein, Lindsay Manoff, Kara Dallall and Leslie Kaufman. "We had an outstanding season, and there is a lot of promise for continued success in the future commented Coach Ziring.
