Braving wet and cold weather, 376 five mile runners, 17 one mile fun-runners and three Peewee runners raced to the finish line in the 20th Annual Great Neck United Community Fund Road Race which was held on Sunday, Nov. 9, at the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point.
Srba Nikolic of Brooklyn won the Five Mile Run in a time of 25:43, while Ellen Kvints of New York City won the Women's Trophy in a time of 29:36. Runners from Connecticut and New Jersey as well as from all parts of the metropolitan area competed for age group prizes, along with Great Neck's own talented athletes.
Evan Wecksell was the first Great Neck male to cross the finish line in a time of 28:53, while Waltraud Leitner was the first Great Neck female in a time of 37:33.
The one mile Fun Run was won by Nicky Haberman of Kings Point and the PeeWee Race for those 6 years of age and under was won by Nicky's brother, Alex.
