The Glen Cove Giants finished second in the 18U Hooters National baseball tournament last weekend in Reading, PA. The Giants finished with three wins and one loss in the regular seeding round and gave up only five runs during the tournament, which were the fewest runs allowed by any of the 13 teams. The Giants were headed to the semi-final round, and hopefully the championship round on Sunday, Aug. 15 when rain cut short the tournament. The Giants strong pitching and tight defense were responsible for seeding second. Strong pitching by Bobby MacDonald, Brandon Lubrano, Pete Cappiello, Spencer Bilello and Richie Maccarone contributed to the strong showing. Details and highlights of the tournament played in the Norman Rockwell-like Reading area will appear in next week’s edition.
