Glen Cove Varsity Girls’ Basketball Report
The Glen Cove Varsity Girls’ Basketball team is coming off an historic winning season with a 10-4 league record finishing in second place in Conference play. Many of our players received special recognition. Heather Artinian and Taylah Hudson were recognized All-Conference. McKayla Hernandez was recently recognized as the most improved Middle School student athlete by Kiwanis. Catherine Perez represented our team as the Senior Scholar Athlete at this year’s Nassau County Basketball Dinner. She played two years of Middle School Basketball and four years of High School Basketball. Catherine represents a student athlete who never quit and gave it her all. We will miss her personality, leadership and smile. She will be attending St. John’s University in the fall.
The Lady Covers are getting ready for the upcoming season playing in outside leagues, attending open gym and getting ready for summer basketball, “where players are made and stars are born.”
Our Varsity will be participating in the 2010 East Rockaway Summer League. Players on our summer league roster are: Heather Artinian, Nicole Alexander, Marcella Applewhaite, Carina Zupa, Alex Durso, Victoria Durso, Taylah Hudson, and McKayla Hernandez.
The summer league competition will be outstanding and help us improve and compete as we prepare for the upcoming season. I appreciate the commitment of our players and parents who will be traveling to the South Shore for 10 plus games.
Many of our athletes are attending basketball camp. Heather Artinian will be traveling to Kentucky for a week to participate in the Blue Chip NCAA Exposure Basketball camp. She will be competing against some of the best players in the country. Her dream is to play college basketball.
Another camp offered in Glen Cove is:
The 2nd Annual Glen Cove/Game 7 Boys and Girls’ Basketball Camp (Grades 3-9) endorsed by the Glen Cove High School Booster Club. The camp will consist of guest lectures, games, stations and prizes. Going to basketball camp is fun and a great way to improve skills which will help players be successful on the basketball court. Watch out Nassau County, Glen Cove Girls Basketball is truly on the rise!
