Do you know how to change the impeller in your sailboat’s engine in an emergency? What are the first three things you should check if your engine is overheating? What do you do if the gear cable breaks?
Come to the next women’s meeting and see the inner workings of an engine, learn basic maintenance, and what to do in case of emergencies like overheating or failure to start. The next meeting is on Sunday, Feb. 21 from 4 - 6 p.m. The group will gather at the Glen Cove Yacht Club at the foot of McLaughlin Street and relocate (they will leave GCYC by 4:15 p.m.) to a nearby laboratory where they will have hands-on encounters with gas and diesel engines!
“We will also continue to discuss plans for women’s activities for the summer, which include women’s cruising and racing opportunities,” said an organizer. “We will plan man-overboard drills, anchoring drills, and other activities which will improve our sailing and safety skills- and we’ll have fun!”
You do not have to be a GCYC member to attend. This program is open to all women who wish to become more knowledgeable about sailing in a friendly atmosphere and those willing to share their skills with other women. You can bring a friend.
